PSA Worldwide Celebrates Pride Through Inclusion and Belonging
May 29th 2026
The date is June 28, 1969. Police have just raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar located on Christopher Street in New York City. At that time, acts of homosexuality were illegal in many states across the U.S., and public spaces that welcomed members of the LGBTQ+ community frequently faced raids, harassment, or closure.
But this time was different.
Patrons, staff, and members of the LGBTQ+ community resisted the raid, sparking six days of protests and demonstrations that became a turning point in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. One year later, activist Brenda Howard organized the first Pride march on the same street where the Stonewall uprising began.
Years later, during the presidency of Barack Obama, June was officially recognized as Pride Month in the United States to honor the events at Stonewall and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.
At PSA Worldwide, Pride Month also serves as a reminder of something we strive to uphold every day: creating a workplace where every employee feels respected, supported, and empowered to be their authentic self. We believe strong organizations are built by diverse people with unique perspectives, experiences, and ideas. Fostering an inclusive culture is not only the right thing to do — it also strengthens teams, encourages innovation, and creates an environment where people can thrive both personally and professionally.
Celebrating Pride Through Community and Connection
One of the most impactful aspects of Pride Month is the sense of community it fosters. Around the world, people celebrate in many ways — from parades and volunteer events to fundraisers supporting LGBTQ+ organizations and advocacy groups.
Supporting LGBTQ+ organizations and community initiatives is another meaningful way to celebrate Pride Month. Many nonprofits provide essential resources, education, mental health support, and safe spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals and families. Attending local Pride events, donating to community organizations, or amplifying LGBTQ+ creators and businesses are all ways people can show support during Pride Month and beyond.
The Importance of Visibility and Allyship
Allyship and inclusion play an important role in creating supportive communities where everyone feels respected and valued. Pride Month encourages people not only to celebrate LGBTQ+ communities but also to consider how they can actively support inclusion in everyday life.
LGBTQ+ visibility remains an important part of fostering acceptance and understanding. Amplifying diverse voices and stories helps encourage empathy and reminds people that representation matters. When communities prioritize inclusion and respectful dialogue, they help create spaces where individuals feel empowered to be themselves.
Even small actions can make a meaningful difference. Encouraging inclusive conversations, learning more about LGBTQ+ history and experiences, and supporting equality initiatives are all ways individuals and organizations can contribute to positive change.

Two-Spirit: LGBTQ+ Representation in Native Communities
The term “Two-Spirit” has become more widely recognized within the broader LGBTQ+ umbrella, but it carries cultural and spiritual significance beyond sexual orientation or gender identity alone.
Traditionally, some Indigenous cultures used the term to describe people who embody both masculine and feminine spirits. Two-Spirit identities are deeply rooted in Native American and Alaska Native traditions, though meanings and roles can vary among tribes and communities. Today, some Indigenous LGBTQ+ individuals identify as Two-Spirit as a way to honor both their cultural heritage and identity.
Pride Beyond June
While June is an important time for celebration and reflection, Pride is about more than a single month on the calendar. Supporting LGBTQ+ communities and promoting diversity and inclusion should remain ongoing efforts throughout the year.
As communities continue to evolve, there is reason for optimism and hope. Greater awareness, increased representation, and stronger conversations around inclusion help foster environments where more people feel seen, valued, and supported.
At PSA Worldwide, we believe Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate the strength of community, the importance of visibility, and the value of supporting one another — not just in June, but every day.
Frequently Asked Questions: Pride Month
How can someone become a better ally to the LGBTQ+ community?

Allies can support inclusion by educating themselves, using inclusive language, advocating for equality, amplifying LGBTQ+ voices, and fostering respectful conversations within their communities.
What is the difference between Pride Month and LGBTQ+ History Month?
Pride Month, celebrated in June, focuses on celebrating LGBTQ+ identity, visibility, and advocacy while commemorating the LGBTQ+ rights movement.
